چکیده

The proliferation of Distributed Generations (DGs) in distribution networks has provided power system operation improvement while raising some protection challenges. Turning to bi-directional, the schemes deregulated should be able deal with an out-of-zone fault. More specifically, DGs impose bi-directional fault current and directional relay employed identify correct direction so that protective relays are prevented from mal-operation This paper introduces a current-based algorithm utilizes pre-fault signal as reference. is designed based on rate change current. As it can inferred mathematical basis proposed method, low sensitivity decaying DC noise components. Also, index certain straightforward range variation between (-1, 1) for backward forward direction, respectively. performance evaluated different scenarios such resistance, sampling frequency, types faults three simulated systems laboratory test bench. simulation experimental evaluation results show accuracy speed comparison similar algorithms.

Fault Location on Compensated Transmission Lines without Current Measurement

This paper presents a novel fault location method for series compensated transmission lines. It is established based on synchronized voltages sampling and Thevenin impedance from both ends of series compensated transmission line. The method is based on the use of phasor measurement units (PMU) technology which is aimed to be independent of current measurements, fault type, fault resistance, fau...

Series Resonance Based Fault Current Limiter with Controlling The Point of Common Coupling Voltage

This paper proposes a novel Fault Current Limiter (FCL) for the application on distribution networks to control voltage sags at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) during faults. This new FCL is based on series resonance including resonance transformer and series capacitor. So, by proper design of the series resonance LC tank, the fault current is limited to an acceptable level. The FCL operatio...

Study on Fault Current of DFIG during Slight Fault Condition

In order to ensure the safety of DFIG when severe fault happens, crowbar protection is adopted. But during slight fault condition, the crowbar protection will not trip, and the DFIG is still excited by AC-DCAC converter. In this condition, operation characteristics of the converter have large influence on the fault current characteristics of DFIG. By theoretical analysis and digital simulation,...

The Impact of Superconducting Fault Current Limiter Locations on Voltage Sag in Power Distribution System

In this paper, the impacts of installing superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL)in radial and loop power distribution system are evaluated to improve voltage sag in both cases of with and without distributed generations (DG). Among various SFCLs, the hybrid type with a superconducting element in parallel with a current limiting reactor (CLR) is selected. This is more effective than resisto...

Fault Current Characteristics of the DFIG under Asymmetrical Fault Conditions

During non-severe fault conditions, crowbar protection is not activated and the rotor windings of a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) are excited by the AC/DC/AC converter. Meanwhile, under asymmetrical fault conditions, the electrical variables oscillate at twice the grid frequency in synchronous dq frame. In the engineering practice, notch filters are usually used to extract the positive ...
